"Monk" Eathern Moss
(September 24, 1921 - June 3, 2012)

U.S. Veteran

Mr. Monk Moss, 90, of Troy, MO, passed away on Sunday, June 3, 2012 at Lincoln County Nursing and Rehab in Troy. He was born on September 24, 1921 in Parma, MO to Ephraim and Mary Edna (Landers) Moss. He lived in the New Madrid area while he was young. After his formal schooling, he lived for a short time in Chicago before moving to the St. Louis area and also St.Charles area. At the age of 23, he was called to serve in the U.S. Army during WWII. After his honorable discharge from the military, he began working as a carpenter and was a member of Local NO. 47. Later in his life, he also farmed in Lincoln County. Monk was an avid hunter and sportsman. He had always been a good provider for his children. Monk had a great sense of humor that he passed along to his children.

Surviving are his loving children: his three daughters: Louise and husband David Main of Edmond, OK, Sharon Gutermuth of Old Monroe, Karen Howell of Defiance, and his three sons: Ron and wife Carol Moss of Troy, Steve and wife Harriett Moss of Defiance and Larry and wife Holly Moss of Moscow Mills. He is further survived by his 14 adoring grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren; also his siblings: Clifford Moss, Dovie Milecwzik, and Eva Harry.

Monk was preceded in death by his two siblings: Dorothy Shoemaker and Harry Moss and his two son-in-laws: Sylvester Gutermuth and Richard Howell.

Visitation to be held on Wednesday, June 6, 2012, from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the McCoy-Blossom Funeral & Cremation Ctr in Troy.

A funeral service to be held on Thursday, June 7, 2012, at 10:00 a.m. at the McCoy-Blossom Funeral & Cremation Ctr. in Troy. Rev. Mike Larson to officiate. Interment to follow in National Cemetery, Jefferson Barracks with full military honors.
