Carol Ann
Baker
Apr 20, 1958 — Jan 9, 2023
Warrenton
Carol Ann Sommer Baker, 64, of Warrenton, MO (formerly from O'Fallon, MO) passed away peacefully on January 9th with her daughters & son in laws, Kelsey Baker (James Harris) of Troy, MO & Olivia Baker (Garrett Haley) of Chicago, IL by her side.
Carol was born April 20, 1958 in St. Charles, the daughter of Louise E. (Kolkmeier) and Arthur J. Sommer. Carol was raised in Harvester, MO along with her seven brothers, Ray (Lana) Sommer, Phil(Debbie) Sommer,Steve (Nancy) Sommer, Howard (Pat) Sommer, Carl (Anne) Sommer and Bert (Audrey) Sommer, and her beloved horse, Joe.
Carol, who was known to many as "Miss Carol", loved children. She began working in the field of Early Childhood Development in 1984, eventually running her own daycare, Storybook Preschool in 1998, until 2007. In 2007, Carol and her family moved to Warrenton, where she started working for the Warrenton School District as a Special Needs Paraprofessional, retiring in 2017 due to multiple health issues.
Although she started losing her eyesight in 2014, a talented artist, Carol continued to paint because she never stopped seeing beautiful landscapes in her mind. She recently displayed her artwork at the Crossroads Art Council in Wentzville. Another passion for Carol was helping others and truly going the extra mile. Carol worked with the Appalachian Outreach program coordinating with Frank Eck and Doreen Martin (St. Dominic High School, O'Fallon) making numerous trips to deliver much needed supplies to the people of the area, and this alongside many other things instilled in her daughters the instinct to help others. Carol was an avid gardener, regular at old car shows and loved good blues music. She attended countless NHRA racing events with her family and lived for creekin' on a nice summer day. She undoubtedly influenced many people – young and old – throughout her career and with the way she lived her life, but the thing she cherished most was the chance to help children learn and grow.
Carol is survived by her daughters, her brothers, 15 nieces and nephews, many great nieces & nephews, partner Tim Clearwater, extended family and countless friends.
