Obituary

Dorothy Louise Schaper, 100, of Troy, formerly of Moscow Mills, Mo, passed away on Friday, September 20, 2024. She was born on July 8, 1924, on a farm in Calhoun City, Henry County, the child of John and Nell (Richardson) Hampton.  After attending the local schools, she went on to graduate from Troy Buchanan High School. Dorothy met and later married, Herald "Butch" Schaper, the love of her life, on August 5, 1944 in St. Louis, MO. To this union were born two sons: Donald and Tom. Dorothy and Butch owned and operated Schaper's Store in Moscow Mills, for 42 years. In addition to running the store, Dorothy took care of Herald and the boys and was no stranger to hard work. She enjoyed caring for family and the time spent with them. Dorothy was meticulous about her appearance,  and  she always looked beautiful.  Every hair in place, and every outfit matching. She was kind to everyone she met, and always wore a smile. She, Butch and  the children attended Moscow Mills United Methodist Church. In the earlier days, the family would often walk to church  together. She was a member of the Eastern Star, Red Hat Club, the Quilters Club, and many other ladies organizations throughout her life.  Dorothy was a kind, compassionate and caring person. She loved spending time with her children and their families. Dorothy was a friend to many in Lincoln County and will be remembered lovingly by all those who knew her.

She is survived by her children: Donald " Donnie" "Schaper and his wife Caron of Troy, and  Tom Schaper and his wife, Debbie of Moscow Mills; her grandchildren:  Kristy and her husband, Andrew Saxe of Troy, Ryan and Cory Schaper of Moscow Mills, and Zak Jost and his wife, Lauryn of Snoqualmie, WA; her great-grandchildren:  Kohen and Jordan Saxe, and Chloe, Olivia and Theodore Jost, and many other relatives and friends.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband,  of over 58 years, Herald E. "Butch" Schaper; one grandson,  Eric Jost, and her siblings:  Mary Stevens, Bessie Glenn Gray, John Hampton, Charles Hampton  and James "Jack"  Hampton.
