EDWARD EARL KLOOS, SR
CAPTAIN, UNITED STATES AIR FORCE, RETIRED
NOVEMBER 2,1929 TO MAY 27, 2023
Ed Kloos was the first born son of Carl Frank and Lillian Mae Kloos. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio where he lived with his three sisters, one brother and a half brother until he was seventeen. Before he turned seventeen his father passed away leaving Ed as the oldest child to help his mother and siblings. He enlisted in the United States Army the day he turned seventeen with his mother's permission.
When the United States Air Force was created, Ed made a career decision as a young nineteen year old corporal to move from the Army Air Corp to the Air Force. He was stationed at Maxwell AFB, Montgomery, Alabama. It was here where he met and married the love of his life, Louise. They married July 8, 1950 and one week later Ed shipped out to Okinawa for his 22 month assignment in the Korean War. Ed made the Air Force a twenty one year career before retirement in 1967. He served his country with honor and distinction.
Even before retirement from the Air Force, McDonnell-Douglas Aircraft Corporation was recruiting Capt. Kloos. The recruitment was a success and the company hired Ed immediately after his Air Force retirement. His McDonnell-Douglas career spanned twenty years in Hazelwood, Missouri from 1967-1987.
Ed and Louise continued to live in Hazelwood, Missouri in their home on Elm Grove until 2015. During all these years Ed never really retired. He owned and operated his own business, S & S Marine both as a "hobby business" in his garage and commercially on Taylor Road in Hazelwood. After selling his business he drove school buses for both the Ferguson/Florissant and Hazelwood school districts for over 9 years. Until Louise finally talked him into complete retirement, Ed continued working with the City of Hazelwood driving their community shuttle bus helping the the citizens of his community who needed this service to safely get to and from their appointments and activities. Ed both served on and was president of the Hazelwood IDA board for many years.
Love for his family and his country describes Ed. He had a passion for camping, boating, hunting and most of all fishing. He enjoyed his friends with a special delight - each one knowing that the Kloos home always has the welcome mat out and the door open.
Ed and Louise along with son, daughter-in-law and daughter moved to Moscow Mills, MO in 2015. Here in their home in 2017, Louise passed away. Ed, aka "Pa", is survived by his daughter, Connie Kloos Moe, his son, Edward "Earl" Kloos, Jr. and his wife Mary Kloos, his brother, Donald Kloos (Kathleen), his grandchildren, Travis W. Moe (Shannon), Aaron L Kloos (Laurie), Bryan E Kloos, Jessica Moe Sherer (Jay), Corey R Kloos (Emily), and Jarad E Kloos….. his great-grandchildren Samantha and Tanner Kloos, August and Ivy Moe, and Beatrix and Arlo Kloos… and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
