Flavious D.
Adkins
Jun 30, 1932 — Mar 12, 2022
Troy
Flavious Adkins, 89, died at his home on March 12, 2022. He was born on June 30, 1932 to Gladys and Dude Adkins. Flavious grew up in Joplin MO. After he graduated from high school, he and his buddy, Fred, rode their horses from Joplin to West Texas. It took them 45 days. He was married to Evelyn Ramey on September 13, 1959. Flavious has lived in San Jose, CA, San Antonio, TX, Manitou Springs, CO and finally settling in Troy MO in 1967. He has worked for McDonald Douglas and then Flight Safety until he retired in 2004 at the age of 72 where he worked in the flight simulation division. This job took him all over the world. We used to tease him that he was a paid tourist. The family bought a small farm near Troy and raised cows, horses, raccoons, chickens, ducks, and of course kids. They moved from the farm in 2005 to a new house a few miles away. After he retired, he volunteered at Therapeutic Horsemanship, now known as Tree House of St Louis for many years. He loved working with the handicapped children and the horses. Flavious will be missed by all of the kids and the staff. He loved working with his cows and horses and was an avid gardener and raised all sorts of vegetables, providing his family with fresh produce all summer long. He played the guitar and wrote numerous songs. Flavious would entertain with his singing at the drop of a hat. He was known for his wit, humor and good nature.
He was an active member of the Church of God. He and his wife were baptized in 1965 and he was ordained as an elder in 1992 and served faithfully in that capacity for over 30 years. He was dedicated to his religious beliefs.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, a brother, a sister, a niece and a nephew.
He is survived by his wife Evelyn of 62 plus years; his three children: Justin (Deba) Adkins of Olive Branch, MS, Flavia (Mark) Everman of Warrenton, MO, and Marcus (Cecile) Adkins of West Chester, PA as well as nine grandchildren: Aaron (Kelly), Katie, Ethan(Amanda),Ronan Adkins, Jonathan(Amy), David(Emily), Karla Vogele(Nathan), Graeme and Aidan Adkins. He had six great-grandchildren: Austin, Owen, Lucy, Felix, Nora and Penelope along with numerous nieces and nephews. One sister Nadine and three sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law also survive. He was the best husband, father, grandfather and friend anyone could ever ask for. He will leave a big hole for all who knew him.
