Obituary

Jay Nicholas Knerr, 72, of Silex, Missouri, passed away on Friday, December 27, 2024 at Silex Residential Home. He was born on May 15, 1952 in Lancaster, PA to Edgar and Sarah Anne (Bratton) Knerr, Jr.  At an early age, his mother passed away and his father later married Elaine Beck.  She then helped to raise him and his four siblings:  Dan, Kerry, George and Erika. After graduating from Conestoga Valley High School, he later attended Bucknell University, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree.

Nick was a natural salesman and had many jobs involving this line of work. He moved to Missouri to work as a traveling photographer for Chromalloy Photographic Industries. He later advanced to regional manager for the Western U.S., residing in St Louis for over 45 years. His last job was in sales and customer service with an electronic components company. He retired after many years of dedicated service.

Nick had a contagious laugh and a brilliant, sarcastic wit that infected all who knew him. His hobbies included being a photographer, illustrator and cartoonist who developed the beloved character "Porky Nick", which he shared with family and friends. He was a passionate music and movie expert on the "Roaring Twenties" with a special love for the silent film actress Clara Bow. Nick was an avid antique collector of the era and in his later years built an impressive collection of Roseville pottery. He also loved the beach and made yearly excursions to Duck, NC with his core group of friends.

Nick was a kind and caring man who loved his family and cherished each and everyone of them.

Surviving are his four siblings:  Dan (Jill) Knerr III, Kerry (Paul) Sappie, George (Jane) Knerr and Erika Knerr.  He is further survived by his adoring nieces and nephews: Danny, Andrew, Alison, Brian, Joshua, Collin and Brett.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
