Obituary

John Joseph Fleming, 87, of Silex, Missouri, passed away peacefully at his home January 22, 2024. John was born in Ferguson, MO, the son of Leo Henry Fleming and Octavia (Garrison) Fleming. He attended grade school in Ferguson, MO until the family moved to the Silex area. John then attended the local schools and graduated from Silex R1 High School.

He met his future wife, Connie Sydnor, at high school and they were married in Elko, Nevada in 1956. They were blessed with four children Janice Lee, Sandra Kay, Mark Joseph and Lisa LeAnn. The couple lived near Olney for the first year of their marriage. John began farming the "home place" where his parents lived at Silex, MO. John and Connie then moved to the " home place" and they purchased this farm and other land nearby. Connie and John worked together outside on the farm for the first 20 years of their marriage. She then went to work in Troy, MO. They raised hogs and cattle, crops and baling hay each summer.

John loved the outdoors. Hunting quail in earlier years, pheasants, coon hunting and later Mark got him interested in deer hunting. There are three mounted deer heads in his home, but he was most proud of the first one he took with a bow. Pool, horseshoes, water skiing, mushroom hunting and bowling  were other things he loved to do. The very favorite thing he loved to do was play ball. He played in high school and then played left field on the Silex Hard Road until it disbanded. John then started playing on slow pitch softball leagues. He continued playing until he was 56, using the same glove he got when he was 10. He enjoyed watching Mark and grandchildren playing ball. His family was very important to him. John was very fortunate; they all lived nearby and he could see them regularly.

John is survived by his wife, Connie R Sydnor Fleming; children: Sandra Kay Fleming Beck, Mark Joseph Fleming (Susan), Lisa LeAnn Fleming Eisenbath (Ron); two sisters: Patricia Victoria Roberts and Kathleen Maureen Hardy; grandchildren: Amy Lynn Patel, Sheri Nicole Terry, Kevin Kristopher Mudd, Ashley Suzanne Fleming, Nicholas Joseph Fleming, Austin Lee Fleming, Natalie Lynn Fleming, Bradley James Eisenbath, Matthew John Eisenbath, Ryan Joseph Eisenbath, Taylor Jacob Eisenbath; eight great-grandchildren, many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Janice Lee Fleming Mudd; a grandson, Andrew Marcus Fleming; a son-in-law, Richard Dale Beck; granddaughter-in-law, Laura Turk Eisenbath; his parents Leo Henry and Octavia Garrison Fleming; one brother, Leo H Fleming Jr; sisters: Bernice Elizabeth Mason, Mary Margaret Timm, Lenora Delores Chevreaux, Elizabeth Ann Havlik, June Eileen Wingron and Rita Mae Fleming.
