Joyce "Katsuyo" Mast, daughter of Hama and Mina Saito was born in Yokohama, Japan and raised in Tokyo, Japan where she met Master Sergeant Donald V. Mast.  They were married on Valentine's Day, 1952.  In 1957, she traveled to the US on a ship with a trunk of shoes to meet up with her husband's family in Effingham, IL.  They were happily married for 61 years.  She was a devout Christian and a pastor's wife.  Throughout her years, Troy, Missouri became her home and where she spent most of her time with family.  Joyce was a nurse's aide in a pediatric ward; she worked in the Troy Garment Factory and retired as a custodian from Wentzville Middle School where she was known as "Mom" to staff and students alike.  Joyce has spent the last 20 years living life to the fullest in retirement.  She has enjoyed traveling with her family, sewing projects, crocheting, making origami, decorating sugar cookies, shopping-especially for shoes, playing Rummy, watching NCIS on repeat and socializing with anyone she came in contact with.  Most recently, Joyce moved into her "apartment" at Sugar Creek Senior Living where she met many new friends and loved the staff.  She became a BINGO regular and loved making crafts with Macy.  Throughout her life, dragonflies were important to her and helped keep her childhood memories from Japan alive.

Surviving are her four children, Elizabeth (Herb) Denniss, Springfield, IL; Donna (Dave) Lemon, Winfield, MO; Brenda (Larry) Saxe, Hawk Point, MO; and Vincent (Heidi) Mast, Chandler, AZ.

Grandchildren:  Corey (Mindy) Enos, Kiesha (Adam) Reller, Carrie Hanke, Krista Saxe, Kelly Wells, Andrew (Kristy) Saxe, Stephen Enos, Rachel Enos, Meghan (Matt) Brewer, Ashley (Pat) Conder, Ryan (Jill) Enos, Isaac (Linda) Dieter, Miguel (Connie) Dieter, Christia Dieter, Juliet Dieter, Melissa (Clement) Aldridge, Teresa Dieter, Jesse (Victoria) Dieter, Allie (Michael) Eppinette, Ian (Mari Rose) Mast, and Natalie Mast.

Great Grandchildren:  Kyli, Maddie, Baylee (Josh), Reyce, Shayna, Simi, Maci (Josh), Salena, Keegan (Maddi), Mya, Brennan, Alexa, Jade, Justin, Kohen, Jordan, Layni, Emily, Stella, Hudson, Parklynn, Felicity, Logan, Loxley, Evangeline, Erica, Bobbie Sue, Bella, Ariel, Max, Annette, Cassandra, Ronja, Adrian, Tony, Sirena, Kimi, Amaya, Akira, Ryuu, Miki, Natalie, Cody, Shira, Grayson, Leya, Elijah, and Elena.

Great Great Grandchildren:  Amelia, Sophia, Baby "Peanut", Baby Miller, Audrey, Dani Jo, Christopher, Emma, and Sakura.

Special Family:  Josh Strader, Clay Wells, Kimberly Mast, Brett Hanke, Marie Mast, Lisa Dieter and many other special friends.

Preceded in death by:  Husband Donald V Mast, Grandchildren Shawn Saxe and Heather Brockmeyer.

A Celebration of Life Service hosted by the family on Thursday, January 18, 2023 at Journey Church from 1-4p.m. with service to follow at 4 p.m.   In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to your favorite charity in memory of Joyce.
