Kathy L
Lewis
Jul 29, 1954 — Feb 3, 2024
Troy
Kathy L. Lewis, 69, of Troy, Missouri, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, February 3, 2024 at her home. She was born on July 29, 1954 in Troy to Martin and Laura (Mobley) Witte. Kathy grew up in Troy attending the local schools. After High School she attended Hannibal LaGrange College and received her associates degree.
Kathy worked several jobs throughout the community in her early adult years, but the most important to her was assisting with the boys at the Johnson Home for the developmentally disabled. She helped her Mother raised her four nieces, Lisa, Lori, Leslie, and Lacy. Kathy cared for them and loved them just as a Mother would. She was their "Aunt", and while she was busy helping to raise them Kish joined the bunch! That little baby boy could not have been more loved!
Kathy was united in marriage to Brad Lewis. They had two children, Kish and Kia. When Kish and Kia were young, Kathy worked as a manager at Chums Restaurant in Troy. She loved being in the community and getting to know so many people. After the loss of Brad in 1988, Kathy made the very wise decision to return to college. She then graduated with her Bachelors Degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education from Missouri Baptist College and began teaching sixth grade at Claude Brown Elementary in Troy. She had been a substitute for several years prior to returning to college. She later returned to college again to earn her Masters Degree in Education from Southwest Baptist University. She taught sixth grade until retiring in May of 2016 from Troy Middle School. Kathy loved teaching, so much so she returned to the classroom in the Fall of 2016 as a substitute. She continued to work as a substitute until the day before she passed away. Kathy also worked for Community Opportunities part time for over 20 years. She had a heart for teaching and helping others especially those who might need a little extra attention. She was a great cook, loved watching Hallmark and Lifetime movies, and spending time with her grandchildren.
Kathy is survived by her children, Kish Lewis (Melissa Kitchen) of Troy, Kia (David) Watson of Troy, her grandchildren, Chyanne, Kalea, Mylah, and Lewis, her nieces Lisa (Jeff) Whitehead of Troy, Lori (Greg) Niffen of Troy, Lacy (Jack) Wilke of Troy, Leslie Roberts of Florida, her cousin and dear friend Linda Chumney of Troy. She is further survived by Aunts, Cousins, Great Nieces and Great Nephews, other family, and many friends.
Kathy was preceded in death by her husband, Brad, her parents, and two sister, Sandy and Patty.
