Obituary

Kimberly J. Coates, 65, of Old Monroe, Missouri, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, August 13, 2026. She was born on May 5, 1961, in Portsmouth, Virginia, to James and Karlyn (Rippy) Mosley.  Kimberly spent her childhood in Alma, Illinois, where she was raised on the family farm alongside her two older brothers, James and Donald. The values of hard work, faith, and family that she learned growing up in rural Illinois remained with her throughout her life. The family later relocated to St. Charles, Missouri, where Kimberly graduated from Francis Howell High School.  Kimberly was known for her strong work ethic and caring nature. She worked at K-Mart and Carolyn's Bar, where she formed many lasting friendships.

She was especially proud when she became a mother to her son, Joshua, who was the joy of her life. On July 21, 1990, she married the love of her life and soulmate, Andy Coates. Together they built a life centered on family, friendship, and creating memories. The family eventually settled in Old Monroe, where they enjoyed country living. Kimberly embraced life's adventures and especially loved riding Harley-Davidson motorcycles, camping, and traveling. She was proud to have visited every state except Hawaii and Alaska. An excellent cook, she found great happiness in preparing meals and bringing family and friends together around the table. Nothing brought Kimberly greater joy than her grandchildren. Riley Jo and Avery were the lights of her life, and she cherished every moment spent with them. Her love, generosity, and unwavering devotion to her family will be remembered always.

Kimberly is survived by her devoted husband of 36 years, Andy E. Coates of Old Monroe; her mother, Karlyn Mosley; her son, Joshua (Jessica) Deadmond of Hawk Point; her beloved grandchildren, Riley Jo and Avery; her brother, James Lewis (Georgine) Mosley III; and many other relatives and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, James Mosley, and her brother, Donald Mosley.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at Highland Prairie Church in Old Monroe, hosted by the family.  The Coates family was served by McCoy-Blossom Funeral Homes & Crematory 1304 Boone Street, Troy, MO, 63379, 636-528-8244 . Family and friends are invited to share memories and sign the online guestbook at mccoyblossomfh.com
