Obituary

Elsie Lucille "Lucy" Broyles, 91, of Troy, MO, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 9, 2025 at the Elsberry Assisted Living Facility.  She was born on Tuesday, December 19, 1933 in St Louis County to the late Luther and Elsie Corless.  She was united in marriage to Laverne Broyles on June 7, 1952 in Troy, MO and to this union 4 sons were born, Kenny, John, Bob and Steve.

Lucille attended Buchanan High School where she graduated as valedictorian in 1951.  She started working at a very young age for many different families in the area and she eventually started her life-long career at Hechler Hardware in 1967.  She continued to work for Hechler Hardware until she was 86 years old, a total of 52 years of service.  She was affectionately known as Lucy, "The Paint Lady" and she knew where every single item could be found at any given time.  When she was not at work, she loved to read, travel, quilt and cook Sunday meals for her entire family.  She also had an amazing green thumb and could make any plant flourish, a true plant whisperer.  No matter her age, her work ethic never faltered, she was selfless in everything she did, a little stubborn, but conquered every obstacle with a smile on her face.
She is survived by two sons: John Broyles and wife Debbie of Hawk Point, MO and Robert Broyles of Troy, MO; two daughters-in-law, Cindy Broyles of Troy, MO and Lisa Broyles of Troy, MO; four grandchildren: Jeremy Broyles, Jessica Boedeker (Jason), Megan Lavy (Steven) and Brian Broyles (Emily); eight great-grandchildren: Aiden, Kendyl, Makennah, Kenzie, Parker, Alayna, Kamdyn and one on the way; nieces and nephews: Randy, Angie, James, Kathy and Russell and many friends.

She was proceeded in death by her parents, husband Laverne, two sons: Kenneth and Stephen Broyles, one brother, Arthur Corless, sister, Shirley Welch, two brothers-in-law, Dale Welch and Orville Dickey, sister-in-law, Imogene Dickey, nephew, Charles Dickey.
