Marsha Kay
Collins
Apr 5, 1969 — Jun 2, 2023
Bowling Green
Marsha Kay Collins, age 54, of Bowling Green passed away at the home of her parents on Friday, June 2, 2023 after a lengthy battle with diabetes and kidney failure.
Marsha was born April 5, 1969 to Jim and Mary Jo (McMillen) Barr in Hannibal, MO. She attended Bowling Green Schools and graduated with the class of 1987. She was married on November 26, 1988 to Joseph Patrick Collins at St. Clement Parish. He passed away suddenly on June 5 2020.
She is survived by one daughter, Emily (Cameron) Collins, her parents; Jim and Mary Jo Barr, her brother Matt Barr and his children, Caitlyn (Arthur) Hammel, Mackenzie and Zachary Barr, great niece, Roseleigh Hammel, brothers-in law, Michael (Marcia) Collins and Tim (Kathy} Collins. Also, many cousins and special uncle, Charles Snell.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Joe, her in-laws Marlin and Louise Collins, grandparents Steve and Mary Dodd and Shelton and Viola McMillen, and special uncle, Robin Scott and special aunt, Linda Snell.
After graduation from high school, Marsha worked at the Pike County Health Department as a secretary where she was inspired by the nurses there to become a nurse. With her gentle and caring ways this was a perfect fit for her. She graduated from St. Charles Community College as a Registered Nurse and continued her education at Mizzou and received her BSN. She worked in many areas of nursing including Public Health, Home Health and Hospice, prison nursing, where she was DON, adolescent psychiatric patients, hospital floor nursing, and finally working from home for United Health Care where she assisted patients from all over the country with not only their insurance questions, but also health related questions. She was able to use her nursing skills for over 20 years before her health forced her to retire. She considered nursing to be one of her greatest achievements and through her work in Public Health, Home Health and Hospice she cared for many local Pike County residents. She loved music and could name most any song no matter the genre. She also loved family camping vacations, Emily's school and social activities, and get-to-gathers with friends and family. Most of all she loved her Lord and kept her faith through her trials. Marsha requested yellow roses at her memorial service because that was what her dad had given to her mother when she was born.
Memorials may be made to Pike County Home Health and Hospice where she had once worked, and who cared for her in her time of need.
