Patty Louise
Duvel
Mar 27, 1932 — Oct 1, 2024
Troy
Margaret L. (Patty) Duvel quietly passed from her earthly life into the Presence of Jesus after a day surrounded by her family at her home on October 1, 2024.
Visitation is 4-7:00 pm Friday, October 4 with celebration of life at 11:00 am Saturday, October 5 at McCoy Blossom Funeral Home in Troy. Burial to be at Olney Cemetery, Olney Missouri.
Patty was born on March 27, 1932 near Cyrene, Missouri to Raymond Hugh and Lola Margaret Colbert on her mother's nineteenth birthday. At an early age, her father gave her the nickname of Patty. Her family moved to Lincoln County when she was young, living near Corso for a period of time and then they moved to the Olney community where Patty would live until after her 90th birthday when she moved in with her daughter. She attended Duncan School for seven years and then finished grade school in the newly consolidated school in the Olney Community Building. She attended Troy Buchanan High School for three years.
Growing up she always enjoyed the various community events and the gatherings of her large extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins. Her parents instilled in her the importance of family, hospitality to neighbors and friends and hard work and she in turn worked to instill these values in her children and grandchildren.
In the Summer of 1948, she met George David Duvel at a gathering in Olney. She already knew who David was as he was a friend of her cousins. She also knew him as the guy that would drive around the Olney square in his 1939 Ford. It was on one of those trips around the square that David asked Patty out on their first date in front of the Olney Baptist Church. They would become engaged on Valentine's Day, and on June 5, 1949 they would marry inside that very church. They were blessed tocelebrate 75 years of marriage together in 2024. God truly joined them together and it was obvious to all the depth of their love for one another. They had three children, Ronald Eugene, Jonathan David and Wanda Louise.
Patty enjoyed working side by side with David on their family farm through the years. She loved working outside driving tractors in the field and helping with the hogs. She always had beautiful flowers in her yardand for many years a large vegetable garden. After retiring from the farm, she became an avid reader and often exchanged books with friends. Patty had a servant heart and over the years served in various roles in her church, Olney Baptist Church. She helped out at school activities for her children and the local 4-H club and community events. She was a wonderful baker of cookies and pies.
Patty is survived by her husband David Duvel, son Ron Duvel (Melva) of South Carolina, daughter Wanda Duvel of Troy, daughter-in-law Margie Duvel of Silex, grandson Jeremy Duvel (Hollie) of Silex, Grandson Jeff Duvel (Heather) of Newburg, granddaughter Kelly Hanner (Jason) of Dardenne Prairie, great-grandchildren Laney Duvel, Kenzie Duvel, JT Duvel, Presley Hanner, Monroe Hanner and Gracie Duvel.
She was preceded in death by her parents, son Johnny Duvel, grandson Jason Duvel and brothers Albert Henry Colbert, Raymond H. Colbert, Jr and Michael Wayne Colbert.
Patty was the family historian remembering details of important events and ordinary days. She loved her family and friends and the friends that became family over the years. She loved those people her children loved and considered many as additional children. She counted herself as blessed for her long life and family. And all those who knew and loved her counted themselves as blessed. She will be greatly missed by family and friends for years to come.
