Obituary

Paul Joseph Orf, Jr., 80, of Troy, MO, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 22, 2022, with his family by his side, in the home he built and lived in with his family for 47 years. Paul was born on July 1, 1941, in Josephville, MO to Paul and Hilda (Meyer)  Orf, Sr. Paul was married to Mary Schlote on October 15, 1960, at St. Alphonsus Church in Millwood, as part of a double-wedding with Mary's sister, Martha, and Paul's close friend and cousin, Arnie Orf. Paul and Mary raised six children together - Rick, Laura, David (Tiger), Janet, Kimberly, and Tracy. He was a beloved grandfather of 8 and great-grandfather of 3. He was also a favorite uncle to many nieces and nephews. Paul leaves a legacy of deep faith, a strong work ethic, a commitment to family and friends, and a love of a good time. Paul was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Troy, MO for 46 years. He supported many church activities and projects, including 30+ years frying chicken for the annual church picnic. He modeled his faith, practiced it regularly, and used it as his guide in life. He attended an annual retreat at the White House Jesuit Retreat center for more than 50 years. He was no stranger to working from sun-up to sundown, running the family farm in addition to a long career as a union drywall taper at Wentzville Drywall and as a foreman at Whittaker Homes, where he retired in 2001. Paul was also an active member of the Knights of Columbus, holding numerous leadership and board positions over the years, receiving recognition multiple times, and ultimately being recognized as an Honorary Life member. He participated in horseshoe leagues and tournaments and loved the competition with friends. Paul was always available to help a neighbor or friend when they needed it. And most importantly, he loved spending time with his family and friends. Whether a family canasta game, a poker night, or telling stories over a beer or highball, Paul leaves us with many smiles, laughs and memories.

Paul battled cancer with the pragmatic nature and tenacity he showed in all aspects of his life. He played the hand he was dealt to the best of his ability while enjoying time with his family, including many canasta games and visits from friends and family that gave him strength and courage along the way. Our family genuinely appreciates the many gestures of support throughout this journey. Whether it was a prayer offered up, a visit, a meal, or simply a story shared, you helped to lighten the burden and are sincerely appreciated.

Surviving are his devoted wife of over 61 years, Mary Orf; his five children: Laura (Ted) Schneider, David (Donna) Orf, Janet (Greg) Becker, Kimberly (Mike) Farrell, Tracy (Jeff) Hiegert; his grandchildren: Chelle (Pat) Schneider, Trenton Orf, Krista Orf, Alex Becker, Sam Becker, Ricky Farrell, Brent (Kristin) Farrell, Alyssa Hiegert; and great grandchildren: Brooklyn Schneider, Lauren Schneider, and Corie Jo Farrell. Paul is also survived by his siblings Robert Orf, Dorothy Wilmes, Marcella (Jim) Smith, and his sisters-in-law Martha Orf and Evelyn Orf, and numerous cousins and in-laws by marriage. He is further survived by bonus grandchildren: Jeremy (Mindy) Schneider, Jeff (Jennifer) Schneider, Josh (Molly) Schneider, Jacob (Stephanie) Schneider; and bonus great-grandchildren: Makayla Schneider, Allison Schneider, Bailey Schneider, Tinley Schneider, Taylin Schneider, Ava Schneider, Tarin Schneider, Brady Schneider, Luke Schneider, and Dylan Schneider.
