Obituary

Robert "Bob" Josiah Walton, 91, of Troy, MO, passed away peacefully at his son's home on April 27, 2023. He was born on September 16, 1931 in Hawk Point, MO to Douglas Hester and Rebecca Anne (Gibbs) Walton, the youngest of nine children and known by his siblings as "Bobby Joe" throughout his lifetime. Bob graduated from Buchanan High School and always looked forward to his class reunions, never missing one, even in his later years.

Bob joined the United States Navy in January 1951 and became a "Radioman Seaman" (radio operator). It was the Navy that led him to meet the love of his life, Joyce Dawkins, at a USO Dance in 1952, while stationed in Delaware for radio school. They married on April 18, 1953. When Bob's enlistment with the Navy ended in 1954, they returned to his hometown of Hawk Point, where he opened and co-owned a mechanic shop until 1961. It was then that he started his 35-year career with Creech Brothers Trucking as Terminal Manager. At that time, Bob and Joyce moved their family to Troy, MO, which became their permanent home. Bob retired from Creech Brothers in September 1996. He didn't sit still long though, working part-time at El Rancho for a few years and later returning to a stint at Creech Brothers as a part-time truck driver. Family was the most important thing to Bob. He loved spending time with them and did so as much as possible. He relished his role as "Dad" and "Grandpa" and was never short on providing hugs, smiles, jokes, and love to each and every one of his kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids. He left multitudes of wonderful memories for his family to remember him and smile.Bob had a great memory and would remember the year of a particular event by recalling the car he had at the time. He had quite the fondness for old cars, was a big NASCAR fan, and also enjoyed many float trips with family and friends over the years.

Bob is survived by his children: Hal (Chris), Mike (Donna), Kay, and Teri (Dennis); grandchildren: Bobby (Reva), Alyson (Michelle), Jennifer, Kim (Zach), Adam (Pam), and Cheyenne; great-children: Brooklyn, Olivia, Miles, Asher, and Daisy; his sister-in-law Barbara McFarland and her family in Maryland; many other loved nieces, nephews, and relatives.

Bob was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 59 years, Joyce I. Walton, his parents, and eight siblings.

There was never a shortage of fun when Bob was around. He was known and greatly loved by all who met him – because he never met a stranger and was quite the social butterfly. As a family friend said, "He left his mark on life. He'll be missed and damn sure won't be forgotten."
