Obituary

Roy Gene Stowers, 80, of Troy, Missouri, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, July 24, 2026 at his home. He was born on March 25, 1946 in Diehlstadt, MO to Henry and Alfreda (Milan) Poley,  but was adopted by Otis William Stowers after his father's passing.  He grew up in St. Louis and after his formal education, he joined the work force.  He first worked as a tree trimmer and paramedic before becoming the owner/operator for the past 30+ years of Spirit Transportation.

Roy was a devoted partner, father and grandfather and a true jack-of-all-trades. Throughout his life, he wore many hats, from truck driver and mechanic to business owner, and took great pride in hard work and helping others. Fearless by nature and a protector at heart, he was someone his family could always count on.

Roy had a quick wit and a contagious sense of humor that could make anyone laugh. He loved to sing, dance, tell stories, and never missed an opportunity to enjoy life. He found peace in the outdoors, especially while hunting and fishing, and had a deep love for children and animals. His kind heart, generous spirit, and larger-than-life personality touched everyone who knew him. Roy's legacy lives on through the love he gave, the laughter he shared, and the countless lives he impacted. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

He is survived by his (companion/partner in crime) Sue Sanders of Troy; his daughters: Sarah Sanders and Kimberly Wilder, son, James Stowers; grandsons: Jason Wieczorek, Michael Sanders, Cameron Shelton; and granddaughter: Summer (Edward  Ramatowski) Shelton, and great-grandchildren: Jameson and Barrett Ramatowski, Joelyn Wieczorek and Elana Sanders; many other relatives and friends.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Lisa Sanders, and great-grandson, Keaton O'Neal.
