William Ray Laird
December 14, 1960 – July 28, 2026
William Ray Laird, 65, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at 3:05 a.m., surrounded by the love of his family.
Bill was born on December 14, 1960. He was a hardworking man with a kind heart who spent many years working for Oliver Truck and Bross. While he took pride in his work, his true passion was driving semi trucks. There was nothing he loved more than being out on the open road, doing what he loved.
When he wasn't behind the wheel, Bill found peace and joy in spending time with his family. His greatest treasures were his children, and grandchildren, and the memories they made together meant the world to him. He will be remembered for his quiet strength, gentle spirit, unwavering resilience, witty humor and unconditional love for his family.
Bill was a proud double lung transplant recipient whose courage and determination inspired everyone who knew him. The gift of transplantation blessed him with additional years of life—years he treasured and spent making memories with the people he loved most.
He is survived by his daughters, Christina Maxwell and Stephanie White; his father, George Wayne Laird; his siblings, Mary Lou Lynn and her husband, Roy Lynn, Toni Roberts, and Boyd Laird and his late wife Kim Laird; his grandchildren Jaylen, Braedyn, Coltyn, Ashley, Andrew, Adam, Austin, and Anna; his great-granddaughter, Hazel; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Mary Fielder.
Bill's legacy is one of perseverance, hard work, and quiet love. Whether he was behind the wheel of a semi truck, or simply spending time with those he loved, he lived with humility and a heart devoted to his family. Though he will be deeply missed, his memory will live on in every story told, every mile traveled, every fishing trip shared, and in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. (Location to be determined). Family and friends are invited to join in celebrating Bill's life, sharing memories, and honoring the man he was. Additional details will be shared by the family through a social media post.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the transplant team who gave Bill the priceless gift of more time with those he loved and to the hospice staff whose compassion and kindness brought comfort and dignity during his final journey.
